Page Title - The Importance of Evidence

If you are subject to an assault it is beneficial to consider the following points:

  • Report the matter as soon as possible to the police.
  • Please seek medical assistance as soon as possible, so your injuries are treated and recorded by a medical professional and make it clear how the injuries were sustained.
  • Ensure that any visible injuries you receive are photographed by a camera. Retain the photographs and date them – Please note: Mobile photographs are usually not good quality.
  • Please keep a diary of any incidents. This information is useful especially if you decide not to report the assault straight away.
  • Keep a note of any other witnesses who were present at the time of the assault. These details should be provided to the police.

If you are being harassed, please consider the following:

  • Please keep a diary and log the incidents. Plus keep a note of all other witnesses.
  • If you are receiving text and phonecalls, again keep a log of them. If you can, take a photograph of the text message, including sender’s name, number and date received.
  • Show the text messages and/or missed calls to an independent witness and a police officer.
  • Retain any messages and mobile phone
