A few facts
- Remember – if you are pregnant and experiencing domestic abuse, you are not alone
- For 33% of women, abuse starts or worsens in pregnancy
- Many women report that physical violence in pregnancy is often directed towards their growing baby, or at their breasts or genitals
- If you think you may be pregnant, book early for antenatal care
- You can contact your local Midwife via Stepping Hill Delivery Suite: 0161 419 5551
- Your midwife is there to support you, and to help you look after your growing baby
- During an antenatal check-up, your Midwife will give you information about support for women who are experiencing domestic abuse
- She will also ask you about domestic abuse: this is now a routine question for all pregnant women and should be asked when you and your midwife are by yourselves
- There are also help-line numbers in the front of your maternity notes
- Pregnancy is an opportunity for you to get help and support, which will benefit you, your baby and any other children you have
